Quick Verdict

Best for: Landed homes on single-phase who want app control plus RFID

Pros

  • IP65 and IK10 on the cable version, so an open porch wall is fine
  • Three ways to start a charge: app, RFID card or plug-in auto-start
  • Current adjusts from 6 A to 32 A to suit your DB
  • OCPP 1.6J, handy if a condo JMB wants billing later
  • 3-year warranty, extension possible

Cons

  • Load balancing needs a separate energy meter, often extra cost
  • 22 kW needs three-phase, and most cars can't use it on AC anyway
  • Larger than the slimmest wallboxes (336 x 187 x 85 mm)
  • Malaysian stock is patchy; some listings show out of stock

Will it work with my EV?

Yes. The Autel MaxiCharger AC has a tethered Type 2 plug. That is the AC standard on every EV officially sold in Malaysia, from a Proton e.MAS to a BYD or a Tesla.

Your actual charging speed will depend on the lower of two limits: the charger’s rating and your car’s onboard AC charger (many EVs cap AC charging at 7 kW or 11 kW, so a 22 kW wallbox won’t push them any faster).

Will it work with my home?

For most landed homes in Malaysia, you are likely on a single-phase power supply. The 7.4 kW Autel model (32 A, 230 V) is the one to buy for that supply. It fills most batteries overnight.

Installing the 11 kW or 22 kW version requires a three-phase electrical supply. Having three-phase isn’t the end of it. Your installer still has to check there’s spare capacity once the aircons and water heater are counted.

Charging Speed & Overnight Time

On single-phase, the 7.4 kW Autel adds roughly 35 to 40 km of range per hour. Plug in after dinner and most cars are done before breakfast.

Faster only counts if your car and your DB can both take it. For daily driving, 7.4 kW overnight is plenty.

Power Rating Est. Speed (km/hr) 0–100% (60 kWh Battery)
7.4 kW (Single-phase) ~35–40 km/hr ~8–9 hrs
11 kW (Three-phase) ~55–60 km/hr ~5–6 hrs
22 kW (Three-phase) ~110–120 km/hr ~3 hrs

Installation & Safety

A good charger badly wired is still a bad charger. For the Autel MaxiCharger AC, a proper job includes:

  • A dedicated EV circuit originating from your distribution board (DB).
  • Cable sized for hours at full load. A 32 A charger runs flat out all night, so undersized wire will cook.
  • Proper earthing and surge/circuit protection.
  • A load check before anything is drilled, so you know your supply can carry it.
  • Full testing and compliance with Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Energy Commission) EVCS guidelines.
  • Assistance with TNB application (if supply upgrades are needed).

Smart Features

  • Scheduled charging: set it to start at night via the Autel Charge app
  • Energy tracking: kWh per session, so you can see what each charge costs
  • Start options: app, RFID card or plug-and-charge auto-start
  • Adjustable current: 6 A to 32 A, by app or a hardware switch inside the unit
  • OCPP 1.6J: can be linked to a CPO or building management system, useful for a condo JMB

Dynamic Load Balancing

The Autel MaxiCharger AC supports dynamic load balancing when paired with an energy meter on your main incoming supply (wired over RS485). The charger reads total household draw and cuts its own current when the aircons and oven are all running, then ramps back up. Ask your installer to quote the meter separately. It isn’t always in the box.

Cable & Everyday Convenience

The home version comes with a tethered Type 2 cable, 5m as standard. Autel also lists 3m and 7.5m lengths, though Malaysian sellers mostly stock 5m. A socket version with no cable exists too. Before mounting, check where your charge port sits and whether you park nose-in or reverse. The cable should reach without pulling tight across the porch.

Weather & Durability

The cable version is rated IP65, which covers jets of water and dust. Impact rating is IK10 on the standard unit and IK08 on the touchscreen model. The socket version drops to IP54. It can go on an open wall, but our tropical sun still ages plastics, so a spot under the porch roof is the better choice.

App User Experience

You run it through the Autel Charge app on iOS and Android, paired over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Ethernet is there if your Wi-Fi doesn’t reach the porch, and some models take a 4G SIM. The app handles scheduling, current limits and session history. Some Malaysian units are sold through ChargeSini and hooked to its cloud system instead, so ask your seller which app you’ll actually use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Only the 22 kW model, and only on three-phase with spare capacity. Most landed homes here are single-phase, which caps you at 7.4 kW. That still fills a car overnight.

Yes. It uses a Type 2 plug, the standard on every EV sold in Malaysia. Real speed is the lower of the charger rating and your car's onboard AC charger, often 7 to 11 kW.

Most terrace and semi-D homes are single-phase, so get the 7.4 kW model. Three-phase shows up in bigger or newer homes. Check your TNB meter or ask your installer.

At 7.4 kW, about 35 to 40 km of range per hour. A 60 kWh battery goes from 20% to 80% in roughly 5 hours.

Cucuk Charge lists the unit at RM2,795 (7 kW), RM2,860 (11 kW) and RM4,940 (22 kW), installation extra. Trexon listed the 22 kW at RM5,988 installed, now out of stock. Wiring, DB work and cable run decide the rest, so get two quotes.

The cable version is IP65 and IK10, so rain and knocks are covered. Mount it under the roof if you can. Afternoon sun is harder on plastics than rain.

Autel lists 36 months on the unit, with extension possible. Installer workmanship warranty is separate, so ask for at least 12 months.
