Will it work with my EV?

Yes. It has a Type 2 plug, so a BYD or a Proton e.MAS charges on it just like a Tesla. You can also set it to only work with your own Tesla if the porch faces the road.

Your actual charging speed will depend on the lower of two limits: the charger’s rating and your car’s onboard AC charger (many EVs cap AC charging at 7 kW or 11 kW, so a 22 kW wallbox won’t push them any faster).

Will it work with my home?

On single-phase, the Wall Connector runs at up to 7.4 kW, which suits most landed homes here.

Installing the 11 kW or 22 kW version requires a three-phase electrical supply. Having three-phase isn’t the end of it. Your installer still has to check there’s spare capacity once the aircons and water heater are counted.

Charging Speed & Overnight Time

On single-phase, a 7.4 kW unit adds roughly 35 to 40 km of range per hour. Plug in after dinner and most cars are full by morning.

Faster only counts if your car and your DB can both take it. For daily driving, 7.4 kW overnight is plenty.

Power Rating Est. Speed (km/hr) 0–100% (60 kWh Battery)
7.4 kW (Single-phase) ~35–40 km/hr ~8–9 hrs
11 kW (Three-phase) ~55–60 km/hr ~5–6 hrs
22 kW (Three-phase) ~110–120 km/hr ~3 hrs

Installation & Safety

A good charger badly wired is still a bad charger. For the Tesla Wall Connector, a proper job includes:

  • A dedicated EV circuit originating from your distribution board (DB).
  • Cable sized for hours at full load. A 32 A charger runs flat out all night, so undersized wire will cook.
  • Proper earthing and surge/circuit protection.
  • A load check before anything is drilled, so you know your supply can carry it.
  • Full testing and compliance with Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Energy Commission) EVCS guidelines.
  • Assistance with TNB application (if supply upgrades are needed).

Smart Features

  • Scheduled charging: set from the car or Tesla app to start at off-peak hours
  • Energy tracking: session history in the Tesla app
  • Access lock: restrict charging to your own Tesla
  • Adjustable current: set by the installer to match your DB, up to 32 A
  • Firmware updates: over Wi-Fi

Dynamic Load Balancing

Several Wall Connectors on one supply can share power between themselves, which helps a home with two Teslas. There’s no meter-based balancing with the rest of the house, so your installer has to size the circuit with the aircons in mind.

Cable & Everyday Convenience

The 7.3m tethered cable is the selling point. It reaches a car parked nose-in or reversed on most terrace porches. Plan the mounting spot so the cable doesn’t drag across the gate track.

Weather & Durability

Tesla Malaysia lists it at IP44. That handles splashes, not a monsoon blowing sideways. Put it under the porch roof, away from afternoon sun.

App User Experience

Setup is through Tesla’s commissioning app over Wi-Fi. Day to day, you control charging from the car or the Tesla app. Non-Tesla owners get basic plug-and-charge and little else.

Frequently Asked Questions

It can, on three-phase with spare capacity. But Model 3 and Model Y sold in Malaysia accept 11 kW AC at most, so 22 kW won't charge them any faster.

Yes. It charges through Type 2, the standard on every EV sold in Malaysia. Real speed is the lower of the charger rating and your car's onboard AC charger, usually 7 to 11 kW.

Most terrace and semi-D homes are single-phase, which tops out at 7.4 kW. Three-phase is more common in bigger or newer homes. Your TNB meter or installer can tell you.

At 7.4 kW, about 35 to 40 km of range per hour. A 60 kWh battery goes from 20% to 80% in roughly 5 hours.

Tesla sells it for RM2,880. Its Approved Installer package is RM1,900 for up to 10m of cable, then RM36 per extra metre (RM60 armoured). So budget about RM4,780 and up.

Tesla Malaysia lists it at IP44, which handles splashes but not driving rain. Mount it under the porch roof.

4 years for residential use when you buy it outright. The free unit under Tesla's Home Charging Programme gets 12 months, plus 12 months installer workmanship.
