VinFast, that Vietnamese car company everyone’s been talking about, just launched in India with some seriously competitive EV prices.
So I was having my usual kopi session this morning when my friend sent me this article from The Edge Malaysia. VinFast is basically telling Tesla and BYD “challenge accepted” by rolling out cheaper electric cars in India.
VinFast Enters India: With Crazy Pricing
Their cheapest model is the Vinfast VF6, a compact SUV that starts at RM77,000. Not bad, right? They’re also bringing in the VF7, a bigger SUV that costs around RM95,000.
Now here’s where it gets interesting. VinFast’s VF6 is actually cheaper than the current most affordable EVs in Malaysia. The Neta V, which was the cheapest at around RM99,800, and the BYD Dolphin at RM99,900, both cost more than VinFast’s entry model.
Tesla’s Model Y costs way more than that in Malaysia. And compared to BYD’s ATTO 3 which goes for about RM167,000 here, VinFast looks pretty competitive.
But wait, there’s a catch. VinFast says these prices are introductory only. They’re limiting it to the first 1,500 cars sold or until November 30, whichever comes first. After that, expect the prices to go up lah.
The pricing they’re offering in India? That could easily translate to similar deals here (hopefully lah).
VinFast just tweeted on September 5th: “Excited to bring affordable, high-performance electric vehicles to India, stepping up the fight against the status quo. The EV revolution in Asia is just beginning!”
You can see they’re not playing around. They want to shake things up.
